I'm new to the Ambassador program, so I wanted to say hello, and quickly mention the one really important thing I wish I had known when I started at Madison College.
When I started taking classes, I was used to my advisers being basically useless people who I had to bother when something didn't work right online, so of course I expected more of the same here. I spent almost the entire first year avoiding talking to my academic adviser, or really anyone else besides students for that matter. This was the biggest mistake I could have possibly made! I learned my lesson when I relied on the online system to determine when I was supposed to be graduating, and suddenly discovered that in fact I did not have another semester of classes I needed. Whoops. Suddenly I was stuck, because I had missed all the transfer deadlines and had no plan for what to do next. Finally I called my adviser, and she was so helpful and nice that I spent the rest of the day kicking myself for not talking to her sooner! Now I'm finishing my second associate's degree thanks to her quick thinking, and I'm hoping to transfer this spring to my dream program at Kent State!
Anyway, my point is this: Your adviser is not like the high school guidance counselor. The advising staff at Madison College are the best friends you could ever hope to have when it comes to making sure you can achieve your goals here. Talk to them. Often. Talk to your instructors too, while you're at it. They want to help you succeed, and they're pretty interesting people too!
I wish you all success in the coming semester, and a great rest of the summer!!!
